The 90s: Art and Fashion | London, 8 October 2026 – 14 February 2027

At Tate Britain, the iconic 1990s through art, photography and fashion

The 90s: Art and Fashion captures a decade of creative energy, optimism and new possibilities. Through more than 100 photographs, paintings, sculptures and garments, the exhibition brings together nearly 70 artists, photographers and designers, from the Young British Artists to Alexander McQueen, exploring the ideas and personalities that reshaped the United Kingdom’s cultural identity. The exhibition traces an era of experimentation and bold expression, when art and fashion intertwined with music, subcultures and new visions of society.

The 90s: rebellion and music scenes

Curated by Edward Enninful OBE, The 90s: Art and Fashion explores the many facets of the decade, from grunge aesthetics and the spontaneous approach of independent photography to the vibrant energy of clubs, raves and underground music scenes. Works by Tracey Emin, Damien Hirst, Gillian Wearing and Steve McQueen engage in a dialogue with creations by Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano and Hussein Chalaya. Through provocation, conceptual exploration and new forms of expression, the exhibition invites visitors to reconsider the 1990s not only as an era of extraordinary creative freedom, but also as a period marked by contradictions and questions that remain relevant today, poised between the legacy of the past and the promises of the new millennium.
