A Wilde weekend in Enniskillen | 16th – 20th October

16th-20th October

In 2025, Northern Ireland will also pay tribute to the 125th anniversary of Oscar Wilde’s death with a weekend in places that shaped his life. Among them, Enniskillen stands out—an enchanting town in County Fermanagh, renowned for its picturesque lakes. Nestled on a river island, Enniskillen shares a deep connection with the celebrated writer: between 1864 and 1871, Wilde attended the prestigious Portora Royal School here, an environment that nurtured his passion for the arts.

A weekend of fairy tales, fantasy, and poetry

From 16th to 20th October, Enniskillen will host In Our Dreams festival, an event that promises “a weekend of fairy tales, fantasy, and frivolity for serious people.” The festival is part of the Wilde Island Town: Home of the Happy Prince project, created by Arts Over Borders, an organization dedicated to developing cross-border arts festivals that celebrate literary figures like Samuel Beckett through site-specific events across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The initiative aims to honor the deep connection between Enniskillen and The Happy Prince, one of Wilde’s most beloved short stories.
