Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi in Florence presents Tracey Emin, Sex and Solitude, the first major institutional exhibition in Italy dedicated to one of the most celebrated British contemporary artists
Curated by Arturo Galansino, Director General of Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, this exhibition explores the varied work of Tracey Emin. It includes paintings, drawings, film, photography, embroidery, appliqué, sculptures, and neon installations. The themes of sex and solitude run through more than 60 works. These works come from different moments of her career. The exhibition offers a personal yet universal journey. It reflects deeply on the body and desire.
Several artworks are shown in Italy for the first time. Among them is the monumental bronze sculpture I Followed You to the End (2024). It is installed in the Palazzo’s Renaissance courtyard. Another highlight is the installation Exorcism of the Last Painting I Ever Made (1996). Some artworks are created especially for this exhibition.
Emin is famous for her candid, confessional style. She turns personal experiences into intimate and powerful works. She does not depict events literally. Instead, she expresses the emotions and physical reactions they cause. Her art moves between sexual passion, love, anguish, and melancholy.
