In the spring of 2025, at the Magnani-Rocca Foundation – the renowned Villa dei Capolavori in Mamiano di Traversetolo near Parma – "FLORA" exhibition is scheduled that combines 'museum' and 'garden'
The exhibition focuses on the romantic theme of flowers. It presents works from museums, public institutions, and private collections. The show demonstrates the timeless appeal of the flower in art. Simple yet symbolically rich, this subject has fascinated countless artists.
“FLORA” is a collective exhibition. No painter or female artist of the 20th century has ignored flowers. Each followed a personal vision and intimate vocation.
The display is like a rich bouquet. It features floral masterpieces by major Italian artists of the 20th century. Highlights include Segantini and Longoni’s Hydrangeas, Previati and Donghi’s Dahlias, and Depero’s Magical Flora. Casorati’s hypnotic bunches of cornflowers, poppies, and daisies are also on view. Visitors will see De Pisis’ Thunderstruck Gladiolus and de Chirico’s Chrysanthemums. The contemporary section features works by Melotti, Paolini, and Kounellis.
The exhibition halls become secret gardens. Pellizza, Chini, Nomellini, Moggioli, and Boccioni evoke flowers in paint and sculpture. The works span symbolism, futurism, cut flowers, still flowers, and restless flowers.
Many “queens of flowers” appear in intense portraits. In “FLORA” works, the flower is as present as the subject. Masterpieces by Boldini, Tito, Zandomeneghi, Balla, Marussig, Fontana, and Pasolini complete the show.
