Brushstrokes of Life and Nature: The World of Eugenio Cecconi

The exhibition Eugenio Cecconi. Days of Hunting and Color, held at Forte Leopoldo I in Forte dei Marmi from May 31 to November 9, 2025, celebrates one of the most original artists of late 19th-century Italy. Promoted by the Municipality and the Society of Fine Arts and curated by Elisabetta Matteucci, the exhibition is divided into seven thematic sections exploring the painter’s entire creative universe. From the sunlit landscapes of Etruria to hunting scenes in the Maremma, from portraits of proud peasant women to intense animal studies—especially his famous dogs—Cecconi reveals a deep interest in rural life and its protagonists, portrayed with dignity, poetry, and truth. His painting becomes both a social narrative and a lyrical vision, thanks to a sensitivity capable of capturing the soul of his subjects.

Alongside his artistic talent emerges a multifaceted man: artist, poet, storyteller, and hunter, deeply immersed in nature and the rhythm of the seasons. Cecconi observes and interprets the world with empathy and direct participation, blending his life experience with his artistic practice. As the curator emphasizes, the connection with the genius loci is a generative element of his inspiration. The exhibition conveys all this: not only the formal beauty of his works but also the intimate truth of a sensitive soul, as recalled by his friend Guido Biagi, “a sensitive and active spirit.”
