At Palazzo Roverella, a journey into the visionary world of the master of Surrealism
Palazzo Roverella dedicates a major exhibition to Man Ray, one of the most innovative figures in twentieth-century photography. From 13 November 2026 to 31 January 2027, around 300 works explore the unconventional vision of the American artist, whose experiments and creative ideas transformed visual language and continue to influence contemporary art. The exhibition also inaugurates the 2027-2028 programme promoted by Fondazione Cariparo, reaffirming the museum’s commitment to major exhibitions devoted to international photography
Curated by Pierre-Yves Butzbach and Robert Rocca, the show is organised in collaboration with prestigious institutions such as the Man Ray Trust in New York and the Photothèque Man Ray in Paris. The exhibition brings together original photographs, vintage prints, drawings, lithographs, iconic objects and historical documents, including important works from the Musée Nicéphore Niépce. Visitors can explore Man Ray’s celebrated rayographs, the solarisation techniques developed with Lee Miller, his self-portraits, images of leading intellectuals of the time and his exploration of the female body through both nudes and fashion photography. The exhibition also features three-dimensional experiments, Dada-inspired ready-mades and screenings of the artist’s four avant-garde short films. It offers a unique opportunity to discover Man Ray’s creative freedom and his lasting contribution to the history of photography and contemporary art.
